James would always try and get me to trade my pound cake for his ham and Lima Beans, When I was a new guy ,it worked and I would trade. But after a week in the bush no way, he had to suffer. James taking a nap after walking through the jungle all day. Operation Silver City 1966.

He died at the Battle of Loc Ninh Plantation
I didn't get to know Sgt. Duran that well, but I can tell you he was funny, I helped him build his hootch, he was telling jokes and I couldn't stop laughing, then he hit his thumb with a hammer and I laughed ,I remember he didn't like that, it took him awhile to start telling jokes again.
