John was my squad leader, I got to know and trust him with my life. I knew when we went out, I had a good chance of coming back in alive. John was part of the 2nd Bn 28th Inf's Navy, on one patrol he took an air mattress down the Song Be River, looking for the VC, hidden along the banks.

Died at the Battle of the Loc Ninh Plantation. I remember down near Bien Hoa ,we got tear gassed, Jack didn't bring his mask, he had taken his mask out and left it at base camp, he did have the case for it though, it was filled with food. He tried to buy my mask from me. I just watched him suffer, from then on there was less food and more mask.
